US-12 is an original U.S. Highway. US-10 and US-12 were originally planned in 1925 to be switched from where they are today east of western Wisconsin, but when the plan was finalized, they were placed in roughly their current locations. US-12 in Berrien County began along what is now I-94, following the original M-11 from Indiana to Watervliet, then M-17 eastward from there, and was moved south along the former US-112 in early 1962.
